keeping html options after refresh and mysql

Ok i have a couple of forms which have a checkbox and select option box in them.

When you click update it updates the info to what you selected.. However when you hit refresh i don't know how to make <option selected> be what was posted to the db. How can i do that?
Also if you check the checkbox and hit refresh then it goes away.., even though in the db checked = true.

How might i go about this

When the page loads, you need to read the values form the database, then give your form elements the value. For instance:

read data from database
<input type="checkbox" name="CheckBox" value="SomeValue" <? if ($ValueFromDatabase) { echo "checked" }?> >

Awsome thank you, but what about having the option selected with a select menu?

ok here is my main problem.. The html code is inside of output = "
and it is not letting me enter the iff statement.. i tried $checked = if ($enable) { echo "checked" } but it doesn't seem to want that either, any suggestions?
