New Development - What to use

I am updating an application which I have been working on for some time. The update includes alot of code rewrite and updating it to support many of the newer mysql 4 functions.

The question is, should I code against mysql 4 or mysql 4.1. The problem is that php will have new mysql calls for version 4.1. "mysqli"

If I spend the time now and program again mysql 4 I will have to go back later and fix for 4.1.

At the same time php developers are saying not to use mysqli extentions because they might change.

Does anyone have thoughts or additional information that might help me decide based on the proposed changes.

I would hold off as long as I could on either, but if you can't wait any longer then I would go with 4....is their much more functionality that 4.1 can provide for you???

You know, after I posted the message I thought about it and decided to go ahead with 4. Sometimes you just need to write things down to see the answer clearly.

But, it is the mysqli extentions which I am concerned with because when PHP5 comes out I am going to have to recode for the additional transaction functions.

So 4 offers everthing 4.1 does, it is only the mysqli functions that I am concerned with. But most of those equivelents can be handled with raw sql code (mysqli_Commit, mysqli_Rollbad)

Thanks for your opinion, I was still kicking the IDEA around and wandering if I was making a mistake and hearing anothers opinion fortifies mine.
