subtracting dollar amounts or nointergers

In my mysql database, I have 2 money fields stored with a type float(9,2). One is a cost and one is an allocation. As I run my script, I subtract the cost from the allocation to get a running balance. So far, all my costs and allocations have been even dollar amounts (no cents). When I subtract a cost from the balance, and echo it out, I am loosing the .00 from the results.

Is there any way to format it back out so that I don't loose the cents from my balances?
