Save jpg file to disk instead of displaying them

Hello,

I I've written a piece of code where customers can download their large jpg-files after some transaction's been made.

What happens is, that links shows up, displaying the name of the large jpg.

All's still ok...

But when clicked, the browser, by default, displays the hig-res, which ofcourse never fits in the window(frame).

I would prefer that the browser pops up a window saying something like: 'You're about to download.....' and then the customer is able to save the jpg to a location on his/her disk.

Is there a way to do that?

You could zip them and provide a link to the .zip file

sounds like a good plan, but how do i zip a file? better yet, how would i zip multiple files?

There is no need to create a zip file and then require the user to manually click the download link. All that needs to be done is to use the content headers properly. Something along the lines of:

$headers = "MIME-Version: 1.0\r\n";
$headers .= "Content-type: application/force-download; \r\n";
$headers .= "Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=FILENAME GOES HERE\r\n";
header($headers);

I have encountered many of these questions on forums, but have not personally tried to solve the question. I will however attempt to set it up tonight and see exactly how it works, and then I can further discuss it with you. I hope this sheds some light on the subject for you though.

Hey,

I tried the code AS IS, changing the filename ofcourse to a local file, ran the program and IE actually gives a download window.

But the file i'm then about to download is the script itself. I experienced this before and after downloading it, the script file will be empty.

I guess you can't just download a script from the webserver root directory or whatever directory the scripts are in.

Any idea?
