Music Download

Hi,
I play in a band. I am making a website for the band. We would like to post or provide our own original music for our website viewers. - in mp3 format -

Our site is on a linux server with apache, with php 4.x, etc.

I have already created a music directory and scripts where we can upload mp3 files to this directory. ( multipart/form-data )

A webpage on the site that displays our music links reads this music directory and creates links to the mp3 files.

So far.... all of that works no problems.

THE PROBLEM: = When I click on a link, the broswer (IE 5.x) identifies it as an mp3 file and calls my music match program to open it. The music match program launches but if never opens it or plays it. The song display list in the music match program is blank.

The file is really there. I've checked the music directory. The file and the link to it are correct......but it doesn't play for some reason

Is it something about binary upload of the file vs. ascii ? Maybe permissions?

Any help would be appreciated. Please respond if you've actually created a site with mp3 files.....

First, is this supposed to pop up automatically and play? I am kind of gathering that but am not sure.

is actually an m3u file. Are you trying to get it to play several songs or just one? I work with radio station automation software (other stuff then php) and I use m3u lists ALOT. I opened your m3u list and it did not contain any actual files just a relative directory. All of the songs will need to have this directory plus the actual filename in this m3u. Let me give you an example (I love LOTR...this is all music I own the cd for):

This is an m3u list generated by xmms (I'm using RH 9), however it should be similar to music match (good program, I have used it in the past), and winamp, etc etc. See it has to have the actual title of the song, so it may be nothing in the way that you are uploading them or coding your site. I would try changing out this m3u to point directly to your site.
Try that...it should be the problem you are having playing the songs. I would also upload them using binary...most ftp programs under windows have an auto function which will look at the file and upload them correctly...if your ftp program has it try it.

One thing I would caution you about: In all of my experience with mp3 files and m3u lists, I never have had to put them on the web like you are doing. So I'm not entirely sure it will work...or better yet I would guess it would work on some mp3 players and not on others. Just FYI.
