retreiving dated records before today

hi,

im trying to select from mySql database, all records that have occured...

e.g.
today is the 30th August 2003

and i have, say in the database the following dates:

11th August 2003
15th August 2003
17th August 2003
31st August 2003

i want to be able to display, just the dates that have passed, depending on the current date. Have got it to work using the "Now () " function in the past. but can't seem to get this to work.......

something like....

SELECT eventdate, event, venue from date_table where eventdate = ???????

First, what kind of database is it? You may be able to just select on SYSDATE.

If your trying to just select past ones, you could use a < instead of =.

$sql = "SELECT eventdate, event, venue 
        FROM date_table 
        WHERE eventdate < '".date("jS F Y")."'";
