There must be an easy answer

I am posting a 'textarea' which I can get to a $file using $_POST etc.

The question is. How can I save the $file into a text.txt file on my HD so I can access it again?

eg.
<form method="POST" action="../textresult.php" ENCTYPE="multipart/form-data">
<textarea name="offers" style="width:800; height:450"> ..etc

in textresult.php I use $textfile = $_POST('offers');

But I now want to put the content of $textfile into offers.txt on the server HDD

Ok got it working except the text being saved is having a \ put in front of each " eg.

instead of

what is a \, it's a slash and what do you want to do to it? you want to strip it

Well yes if it's a simple answer..
we can't all see the woods from the trees when w'eve spent 2 days working on a script..

I just wrote an entire phpmail script today to help sum1, took all of 18 mins of my life 2 do it.

But i believe what goes around comes around. and if i help someone perhaps over and above the call of duty then someone will help me a bit more than

I work very hard at my scripts and when you spend a long time on a project it can be easy to miss the obvious until you leave it and come again fresh...So thanks for your input. 🙂

I think what sarah maybe meant was that merely providing a working chunk of code - which they can stick in their script without necessarily understanding how it works - doesn't actually help someone as much as giving them some pointers so they can work it out for themself and learn something new.

How does the saying go..

"give a man a fish and you feed him for a day

"teach him how to fish and he'll hoover up the whole damn ocean and then complain when you attempt impose sensible quotas

.. or something like that.

But from your reply I wouldn't have expected you to have the skills. If you can't work out that a snippet has a variable called $message where you'd expect $textfile then I don't anticipate a high skill level.

I would also expect someone with your skill level to have the "get up and go" to be able to think "oh, I don't know that function, I'll look it up".

I guess I'm getting on a bit, but I see "get up and go" as the vital difference between the haves and havenots, and that's not just in this industry. However, 99% of the people who utilise this site have it, that's why they are here, having a bash and extending their (often limited) skills. They are a pleasure to help.

it's been a long day

fact of the matter is :-

your script was not helpful and would be confusing to other people, who lets face it use these forums to learn and they browse existing posts to find answers before posting new ones.

you refer to a data file which was not in my enquiry and is not in the directory above the root.

trim was an unnecessary line.

the script failed as variables had not been set

so your 'snippet' was probably less productive than not replying.

I did use the links you provided to solve this issue for which I thank you.🙂
