PHP & Oracle on RH9

Anyone have any instructions on enabling Oracle support on a RH9 box? I need to migrate an Oracle DB over to MySQL or, at the very least, into a flat file for archival purposes before we kill the thing, however, there is no longer a php-oracle RPM.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

oracle is simply an app that can run on linux...so don't quite understand your question...and php does have oracle connections...have alook at the ini file or the manual [man] oracle[/man]

you can simply use the oracle utilities to export a in a flat format and use the mysql load functoins to load the data in...

We have an existing oracle server, but the situation is unique. The person who maintained the database left our group a few months back -- his code was absolutely cryptic and near undecipherable; on top of that, he mixed one projects tables into another projects tables on the same db.

I've been asked to do what I can to extract that information, and, not knowing much about oracle, I'm trying to do it with the tools I know and I have access to.

I don't have access to the server with the actual software package and tools.

Now, I'm running a RedHat 9 box and there are apparently issues with it interfacing with oracle. The ora_* functions come up as undefined, so this is what I'm asking help with.

what kinda code is cryptic (internal sql /plsql for oracle? or php?)

what is the data structure like?...mixing project elements in a table is not necessarily bad...just means the data had common elements that could be kept in the same table(s) to kep the structure as normalized as possible...

RH is supposed to have the best integration with oracle as it is the preferred linux platform for oracle...for another forum try www.tek-tips.com ( they have both oracle and linux forums that may have people who can point you in the right direction)

from your post i am not exactly sure if is the php oracle functions that are giving you grief or the linux itself...note that for php there are two sets of oracle functionalities and only one can be on at a time...either the oracle functions for 8.0 and below and the other for 8i and above...make sure that one or the other is uncommented in the ini file for the functions to activate...

The original software was written with Visual Basic 6 front end application and a Visual C.NET dll backend structure that interfaced with Oracle. What could be done with a few files in PHP was done with about 10,000 lines of code spread across 40 files.

That's what's cryptic.

And as for whether it's PHP/Apache or an OS configuration issue, I'm not sure either. I'm trying to see if any one has gotten RH9 to work with Oracle or if there's an existing issue/workaround.
