[ date / time ] how to extract days from timestamp

Hi there,

let's say I have day X as unix timestamp and day Y as unix timestamp,
Y - X = difference

How do I get the number of days between these two dates?

might be my mind is blocked right now, but I just don't quite get it.

You might look at [man]getdate[/man]. For example, assuming the days are in the same year...

// $Y and $X and UNIX timestamps...
$ydate=getdate($Y);
$Y=ydate['yday'];
$xdate=getdate($X);
$X=xdate['yday'];
echo "X and Y are ".($Y-$X)." days apart!";

thanks, but what in case they are NOT in the same year, which might well be the case?

A timestamp is a count of the seconds that have elapsed since 1/1/1970 so it doesn't matter if the two timestamps are not in the same year. The only time you'll have a problem is if one of the tmestamps is from before 1/1/1970.

Yes, but [man]getdate/man is a number which is equivalent to the ordinal yearday (Dec 31 is 365, for example), therefore it is an issue if he uses my suggestion.

Tekky's solution is superior...you might wanna round $diff, though.
