how many hits can my server handle?

Hi,

I have a simple page with a form in it, that users fill out and the fields of the form are then stored in a MySQL database. Pur server is a Linux box with a 1.2 GHz processor and 512 MB memory. We are expecting a load of about 2500 hits per minute and between 16 000 and 17 000 users on the page during the first 10 minutes when it is going live...does anybody know if my server will be able to handle this kind of load?

you are likely to run into problems with that, there are default limits to number of connections to mysql and to the server, depending on your host, this could be as little as 100 connections to mysql at once, you may want to check into that first off, and what sort of bandwidth do you have

for a quick test try the apache bench (i.e. apache aBuse) program, ab. It should be installed by default and in root's path.

ab -c 20 -n 1000 http://127.0.0.1/index.html
