Can anybody recommend a resonably priced PHP editor? Notepad just ain't cutting it anymore. 🆒

I'd settle for a reasonably priced PHP IDE too. Then I could get rid of all my echo debug statements. 😃

Hey, free would be even better!

    Hi,
search in echo lounge, there are hundred and more thread on this....

I would second drawmack's suggestion of HTML-Kit. It is what I use and it really does the job, plus there area great deal of plugins for it, many of which are very useful.

My brother uses JEdit ( http://www.jedit.org/ ) and really likes it, though I haven't tried it. It is Java based so it will run on a great deal of OSes if that is a consideration.

I'm a big fan of Homesite, but work buys our dev copies for us, and I have an educational version ( I'm still a student ) that I don't use for paying work at home.

It's a bit more expensive than most of the other reccomendations you'll get.

I've also heard VERY good things about Quanta, although I'm not sure its available for Windows... not sure what you're running...

Dreamweaver has some support for php. That is what Im using now until I can afford a nice IDE. Check out http://Downloads.com, you may be able to find something there.

LOL - yes there are plenty out there - I'm using Crimson Editor which also allows you to interface with the PHP CHM format documentation... and it's free.

There are many fancier ones out there such as phpEdit and Zend Studio (Personal Edition) which are slated more as pure PHP IDE's but their JAVA engine overhead is too high to give me a satisfactory user experience (too much lag). Having said that, I think they are a good start for PHP beginners and straightforward projects.

Have a look at PHP Coder, www.phpide.de it is fairly reliable and not too many bugs for the price (Free).

I use Quanta for Linux (free), and it relly does the work... On Windows my favorite is the damn expensive Homesite (30 days trial is free)... www.macromedia.com

Does anyone know of an editors or ftp programs that don't have to be installed. Like firebird just unzip and run? I'd like to have an editor, browser and ftp program all on a usb memory stick. Kind of a work anywhere stick.

Could try win32pad, though it is only for windows, is not open source and does require an install, though it is small.

As the bowl of petunias said: "Oh no, not again".

Id have to agree with maybl8r03 in that crimson editor is very good for a free editor. I use it occassionally when I dont need to run a large program like Dreamweaver.

As bad76 has pointed out, this topic has already been thoroughly thrashed out in the Echo Lounge. It's even linked to in the first question of the Echo Lounge FAQ, but I'll snap a pointer and link to it directly here. If there's any more thrashing to be done I suspect it would save a lot of space in redundant reposts if that thread were to be continued rather than duplicating its contents in this one.
