[Resolved] Mail Delivered to root

Im following a tutorial on a membership system. Everything seems to work fine. the problem is when i sign up to become a member, the mail is sent to my root user on my linux box.

all mail gets sent here:
/var/mail/root

they dont get sent to the email address.

Any ideas why this is happening and how I would go about fixing it?

Only sendmail items i found.

I'm thinking it's something to do with your sendmail setup.

Try digging around in the sendmail man page and see if there's something you need to change. Or, specify the sendmail command yourself in that configuration option.

I've never run into this problem myself, so I can't be much more help.

This will probably gets us no closer, but why is that not a valid e-mail address? It may or may not be the cause.

The e-mail addresses that were being sent from PHPNuke - were they valid and in existance?

It might be the case that if the e-mail address can't be found, it defaults it to root? Maybe. I'm not sure.

im sure that all of the emails were real. one of which was my own. i think i have found the problem but i dont know how to fix it. when an email is sent the receipiant mail server checks the email. so it is checking home.joesmut.com. problem is that does not exist. to fix the problem would be to get rid of the "home.". which inlies into another problem. I dont know how and have come to a loss on searching google. any ideas?

Your SMTP server is probably not relaying (a default behaviour now).

Your domain seems to be *.joesmut.com

but your outgoing email is [e-mail] & [e-mail] - If you tried to use the SMTP server for joesmut.com to send out emails bearing the return address for different domains it will probably bounce back to your mailer-daemon (if it can find it's way back).

Try using

ini_set("sendmail_from", "[e-mail]");

or set the appropriate tag in php.ini

sendmail_from = [e-mail]

The tag was correct in the php.ini. the "From" was being changed by the script. I changed so it would be correct now. But still no luck on having an email send.

problem solved. What i did to fix this annoyance was create a variable with my mail headers in it. this solved my mail issues.
