Credit card transactions

Hey folks

Just wondering whats involved in getting my shopping cart to be able to use credit card transactions?

You need:

A merchant account
A software interface with the bank you are wanting to use and have the merchant account with.
A secure certificate.

Then you will need to pass the variables in your shopping cart to this interface, ie. ccnumber, expire, name of card etc so that it gets verified in real-time and returns an approval or rejection.

I suggest investigating your banking institutions to see what they offer.

I'm doing this as a job for someone..
They want a shopping cart so thats what I wanna give them

Has anyone had to do this at all?

I know with ASP there is an exchange server or something that the webserver has to run? I thought there might be something similer for Apache/PHP?

Companies such as Camtech offer solutions which enable you to use almost any banking facility.
Banks use their own software which you need to integrate - that is why I suggested you contact the financial institution where the person you are making the shopping cart for has a merchant account.
Thirdly, you can investigate Paypal or WorldPay. The downside of these I believe is that you have to be a member to be able to make a payment.

If you dont like the thought of people needing to be members there is 2checkout.com although i do not use them, i have heard both good and bad from then.. But i guess the bottom line is what does your client want.
