invision board error - mysql or somat

hey, wonder if u cud help me out here, just brought a domain, and got a invision board, installed it, regs it, created account, but when i go to it, yes ive uploaded everything i was told too, i get this error,

Check the MySQL username and password in your conf file. The first error is stateing that it is trying to connect as the user 'root' , not using a password.

not sure if u mean mysql.php but here is what it says

but i put my pass in there and username and uploaded didnt work before, but maybe wrong thins, any ideas ?

That's the place. You need to enter your database name, username, and password. When you rent space from someone else, they will usually setup your username and pass in mysql. It's just bad practice to let everyone connect as root....

BTW, have you even created the database yet? Because that will also need to be specified in the file. Can't connect to the database if it doesn't exist yet....

ive done that just, still no luck, changed it to this is it right, obviously password bein my password, and ive doubl checked ive created my database which i have, cus it shows the info on it yep.

you might need to put sommet in to the port part. default is 3306 i tink..

i done that, still get same error 🙁, i really dont knwo what to do at this point, is there any other advice, or does any1 know what the problem is, drivin me crazy,lol

the thing is, when invisionboard is installed im pretty sure that it asks for your info thru the install.php file. theres no editing... also just check that the invisionboard tables have been installed properly

if you use phpmyadmin or somthing similar then open up your database and see what tables are lurking inside, they shouldnt bite... much... also when you say that you installed it. does that mean that you just uploaded the files or actually installed it all... cos theres an sm_install.php that your meant to run once youve uploaded it all and set the chmodd of certain files (also read the installation guide 🙂)

yes i installed it properly where u use that fiel, and i set it up, ive read the installation thing, doesnt help 🙁. still wont work and im still in the dark of why.

well if you entered all the correct information into the fields then you dont need to edit the files because the installation thing will automatically write them into it. or did when i installed it... so what i suggest is, either delete all the files, and re-install it, or well im not sure...

lol, wierd. after you reinstalled it, was your info in the config file?
im pretty sure that its the conf-global.php file that its all in

i decided to get phpbb2, its worked installed fine, i mean look

www.p2p-archive.com/forum but when i try to admin logs in fine everything works apart from forum managent, everything else like general users etc works, i get this error

now that file is not even included with phpbb2, so whats goin on, ?

if its not in the thing then try downloading it again.

well im not sure.. isnt phpbb the one that you pay for? ive no idea why it isnt there, try finding a different mirror

Interesting you found phpBB easier to install than Invision Board. Neither is rocket science, but IB's setup is a bit simpler.

phpBB is GPLed software so you don't have to pay for it. Invision Board is commercial but it's free to download and use.
vBulletin is the one who wants the cash up front.
