script causes a "download file" window only when called from a different file

Now I know there were a few tips about it in here,

BUT - my problem is that the scripts DO WORK when the files are viewed independently, but when called from ANOTHER file - they generate the magnificent "download file" dialog window.

I tried just about everything...
the files are all with the .php extention,
I use win XP, php 4.3.3 and IIS.

can anyone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me here?
(and since I'm not an expert yet... in plain english..)

By scripts I assume you mean PHP scripts and if your scripts work in an explicit mode (e.g. http://foo.bar/scripts.php) but fail when you call it, the question now becomes how you call it? Usually if you "call" another script, you would use a require or an include command from within PHP itself.

If it pops up as a download window, there is a possibility that your scripts are being requested from the client end.

Do you have any example codes or a website that would help anyone here to have a better idea on the problem?

you assumed correctly: the php script of my "main" file has an
include of another php script file and uses a call to function that is implimented in that included file.

the "main file" start with:

 splitScreenHeader();

...

and the 'output.php' is:
