Upgrading PHP

hello ... I installed Miniportal server that it has PHP 4.1.2 ... on a windows 2000 server.

i like to upgrade it to 4.3.3 .... and install GD also,

i tryed to find some help documents ... on php.net and another web site s ..... but no luck

is there any help 😃

Assuming you are using the www.php.com binary distro and you are running it as a CGI all you need to do is enable the module. Make sure you have php_gd2.dll in your extensions directory under php and change the following line in your php

;extension=php_gd2.dll

extension=php_gd2.dll

It should now load with GD enabled.

you mean that i have to change this line in PHP.INI ???

and what about upgradin the whole PHP from an older version to a newr one ???

It depends - for a big leap like from 4.1 -> 4.3.3 - there are major differences in what is provided in the extensions module - one good example is php_gd.dll is no more and the only choice you have is php_gd2.dll. If you use it out of the box, you will have to make changes to your php.ini unless you go out and see if there are any kind souls who have rebuilt php_gd.dll that will work with PHP 4.3.3

but i didn't get an answer .... !!!

I know there is a big diffrent between 4.1.x and 4.3.3 and I like to know how to upgrade it .... can I just copy the files of PHP 4.3.3 that i download in to the installed php version (i use apache server provided by http://www.instantservers.com/ and a php & mysql plugins that the Instantservers provide on there web site on widows 2000 Server)...

I have the server allready installed ... and i would like to upgrade PHP and MySQL and Apache

so as I was thinking:
1-copy all the files of the new 4.3.3 PHP that I downloaded as a ZIP file from php.net into the current PHP folder that it I'm using

2-then go to php.ini and chance/edit the file (extension=php_gd2.dll)

is that all what i need to do upgrade the php ???

Generally... yes... and if you run Zend Optimizer or any such add-ons it's prudent to uninstall ZOptimizer and re-install it.

OK this is what it did happen !?!?!?!!!!

I made as i sayed before ... and when I enable the GD Library:

I got this message on the serev as a Warning Window ?!?!

Unkown(): gd: Unable to initialize module
Modeul Compiled with module API=20010901, debug=0, threa-safety=1
PHP Compiled with Module API=20020429, debug=0, thread-safety=1
These options need to match

that what was the message in the warning Windows !!!

and if I desable the GD library .. then I don't ger this message

I get this message when I run the PHP info file that shows information about the php envirement ... and i can open this file in any client ... but it will not show any informmation .. till i press OK in the warning window that show up in the server screen ... and not in the clinet screen !!!!

You have to either use the GD library supplied by the Win32 build of PHP (4.3.3) - you can't use the GD from previous build if they were not compiled staticly.

On the other hand you might want to try re-compiling GD - if that's not the option then you will have to use the bundled one.
