Reading mail from Exchange Server

It is possible to read mail with PHP on a POP3 and IMAP server, is it also possible to do this via Exchange ?

Sockets possibly ??

Any ideas would be grateful...

Excuse my naivete, but doesn't Exchange do both POP and IMAP4? How am I misunderstanding your question?

I saw this on Micro$oft Technet once - go to:

and search for Mail Functions

A twist of irony is that this is a paper on how they ported a Linux web site to Windows (and still use PHP, MySQL).

It mentions sending email but I believe by using that COM component, you might be able to receive or read e-mail as well? Not too sure but doing some reading from that starting point might help.

Exchange does have POP3 and IMAP but it's usually switched off (I think - haven't administered it for some time now) - even sendmail compatible port was a configuration that you had to switch on (this was in Exchange 4 if I'm not mistaken) - I'm too old to remember, too young to care.

I had been trying to connect - and kept getting refused, only because my nice IT manager (see here for details) had removed my access....

Still works.... or at least it will when they have sorted themselves out !!

I'd forgotten you worked for a paranoid head-up-arse politically-acceptable NT sysadmin; I feel sorry for you, but maybe you make more than I do for your trouble. (Hey, gotta find something positive, eh?)

So, is he gonna let you back in? Or is he pissed 'cause of the db debacle?

I don't know on that score as yet - sent an email asking him about it... only to get:

"If you can assure us that this system will not be abused, nor will it compromise the security of the network, then I will allow this access. Please let me see a working example of this first and I will assess it from there...."

"Hmmm - go shove a firework up your ass !!" -> would that get me fired ???

It isn't as though he has admitted that the DB debacle was his fault.... still trying to blame that on me (and I was only 14,000 miles or so away..)

Just glad I already have the code almost working, but I am damn sure I don't get paid enough for this... Know anyone who wants a coder for hire in the UK ? May not look overly pretty - but it damn sure works...
