😕 can i use php to build an online reservation system for an hotel with in 4 month and i have no knowledge about php .so it is possible for my to use php or what should i use? i have ask many option and they say that php is an open system not like ASP need to used unix server so how about PHP?

pls advise what should i use to build on line reservation system for an hotel ? i would appreciate with any feedback post to me.😕

Most people say (me included), PHP is easier to learn. You can use it on Windoze, *nix, Mac, whatever. My vote would be 'yes'.

Yes, PHP is very good at reservation systems for hotels. Whether it is good for you depends on what server options you have. The PHP Manual which can be found at many websites but at http://www.php.net with the most authority, explains practically all functions quite clearly in several languages, and the many examples of code which are posted there and on forums such as this one, will help you become confident in 2 months, and able to create a basic reservation system in 5.

Four years ago, I didn't know PHP but decided to use it on our new version of flag-ship product - it promised cross-platform compatability etc and er low-cost to own er free. Within a week I was cruising and displaying concept applications for the marketing department to comment. I'm no genius, PHP is just another choice albeit a good choice for me to move to. IMHO (without going in a head on debate on which scripting language is best for the web) if you once :

1) coded scripts such as PERL, VB
2) coded C++ or Delphi (for basic understanding of Objects)

If you are pretty good with any of the above then migration to PHP is as tough as erm... a good reference book to bring to the toilet once in a while! 🙂 E.g. you will only need to learn new syntax, all the old school programing still structures apply.

For me, PHP was easy - took the jump, and got a promotion thrown in for good measure. I'm sure there are horror stories out there, just that I haven't heard one yet! 🙂

Personnally, I haven't worked with ASP yet. So I can't judge that. But for me, you should probably go with PhP, not Perl.
Perl is harder to learn (e.g. can get cryptic), while PhP is much easier (lots of pre-defined functions, easy interfaces, ...). While Perl is still good in other fields (eg server maintenance), I'd advise you to go with PhP.

For your reservation system, think about using a database (like MySQL), using sessions/cookies and user logins and get some info on the $_POST array's variables. These are just some topics you might want to look for when searching PhP forums or Php manuals and such. These things will come in handy for you.

yeah you start learning how to code securely using php with register_globals TURNED OFF!!. then once you get good at that then u might be able to get this thing done if you work at it full time for the next 4 months.
