Problem with safe_mode and mail() php function using sendmail

Hi to all.I'm trying to use my webpage to send e-mails with sugerences. I have just turned on the safe_mode to improve my server's security and mail function doesn't works.

The php mail() function returns true or false depending on the result of the execution. It allways returns true (¿good?) but never sends any mail. If i try to use sendmail from the command line (red hat 9) it works OK.

I have thought of using the variable safe_mode_exec_dir but that will grant acces to all the /usr/sbin (bad solution) and i don't know if i should create a new directory to ¿copy, link or what? the desired executable files (¿sendmail.sendmail should be?)

Please, I think this is an easy question, it's a normal thought.

do you have your php.ini configured to use sendmail

Manny manny have asked this quistion... The most normal thing is that you simply haven't configured you webserver to allow sendmail (as sed)... You can config it by entering you smtp server to the smtp field in the php.ini

if the server where you are hosted is'ent you'res then use the ini_set() function to set the smtp server:

But that parameter works only under win32 no?

WHat do you mean?
If you write the default value it's not the same ?

Do i have to write sendmail -t -i ??

put semicolons to comment out the win32 options, that could be hosing up everything

It doesn't works...

I can't understand why mail() answers true and the mail is not delivered. If I use sendmail from the command line it works OK.

is your sendmail program in an odd place on the server, the default place php looks for it is in these places

/usr/bin
/usr/sbin
/usr/etc
/etc
/usr/ucblib
/usr/lib

if it isn't you can use sendmail_path at runtime to set the path

But sendmail is a link to a link to a sendmail.sendmail (i haven't renamed it, I use up2date from redhat and nothing else)

maybe could be some isue with permissions? but then ¿why mail() answers ok?
And i suggest: ¿will this problem something to have with safe_mode?

the mail answers OK, cuz there was nothing wrong with the mail, but IT doesn't know whether sendmail sent it or not, it just knows that it has done its part
