Since I can't test this at work...
Using the SQL Update table set age = age + 1 where name = 'Fred'
if Fred does not exist in the table will a new record be inserted with age = 0 or will this cause an error?

usually updates die gracefully, what i mean by that is that they won't error out, but they won't do anything, and no they won't insert a new record
