i know this is a very vague question, but i have been contacted by a guy looking for me to build a website. he hasn't given me specific details, but is after a restaurant / catering related website which allows users to book tables and dishes at his restaurant.

i have experience in mySQL and PHP so i have no doubt i'll be able to make the site with little difficulty, but i am wondering how much to charge him.

would i say a lump sum figure, or a charge per hour or page? he also wants me to maintain the site, so the webhosting would be another monthly charge i would have to cover.

this is my first paid 'assignment' so would be grateful if someone could advise me on how best to go about quoting the customer.

oh, and the site has to be ready for 6th october as well, so thats another consideration for price.

we usually figure out how many hours it will take us, then multiply that by our rate, double that and add half of original, just to watch out for feature creep, then if they decide to go over, simply tell them it is $XX/hr and give them rough estimates on how long a certain add-on will cost, as for the monthly thing, when clients request changes from us, we simply do them, keep track of our hours, and bill them accordingly

our rates are:

$65/hr for html/javascript/dhtml/css/etc
$85/hr for PHP/ASP/Perl/etc
