Href and php

I wan to have link in my program. But When I click on this link I see at the address bar, not redhat.com:

"http://</?php".

$page = "http:/www.redhat.com";
$url = "<A href=<?php echo $page ?>Click Here</A>";

Any ideas what is wrong with these two lines.

Thanks , this works. But can you explain the syntax . I don't understand why you use the backslashes and double quotes.
