Filling a row with a gradient color

Hi there

Let's say I've got a table.

Let's say it's got 4 rows.

Sorry if it's a basic question, but how do I go about filling one of the rows with a gradient fill (i.e. not just a solid red, but from dark red to light red in the same row / cell)

Help would be very much appreciated!!

I could be wrong, but I've not seen any HTML attribute that can display a gradient colour.

If the table cell is a fixed size then you could do it with an image in the 'background' attribute of the TD.

I don't think you are wrong! To be honest, my html isn't too hot either, and I wasn't aware of what you suggested, but it works an absolute treat - thanks!

Can anyone suggest a decent paint package that can create gradient fill jpg's - preferably freeware (I'm afraid I don't have that much cash to buy a new piece of software!)

I saw a way to do this with css once, but if you make the gif or jpg 1 pixel high anfd like 1000 pixels wide it's a smaller download for the image then for the css.

1) if you want, you can do it with a background image. Download GIMP (GNU Image Manimpulation Package (?)), it's open source(free) for Linux and windows.
OR!!!!
2) You can get the resolution of the users screen (javascript) pass that to a PHP function that calculates the size of the row you are trying to fill, use GD to create the image to the right size and gradient fill it.
Display as needed on that page, it is destroyed as the script finishes unless you save the created image.
