Total begginer coming through

Firstly, PHP Builder is the best site ever.
Secondly, I am a complete beginner - I mean beginner. I want to use PHP to build a cheat section of my site and I have seen on the internet a page like this "gamecube.php?id=23542". I would like to do this on my site but I don't have a mySQL database and I have no idea where to start. Can anyone help!?

First place to start is to drop about $30 on a PHP Book -- any decent one that is project-based and has MySQL projects as well.

Other than that, you'll want to check out php.net, apache.org and mysql.com -- look on the web for tutorials and how-to's.

well I bought the PHP bible but some of it is quite confusing and it is my first proper programming language I'm learning. Also you said to look at MySQL stuff - i haven't got a MySQL database!!! :eek: is there a way to do it without a SQL database? a tutorial would be helpful, if anyone can find one...

Starting out you usually don't want to get the bibles -- these are references for folks who know how to code. You want one of the "Learn PHP in 24 Lessons" type books.

There are tutorials, but you're going to be missing a lot of holes trying to figure things out when a project-based book leads you step by step and usually fills in the blanks.

Also, visit those websites mysql is free to use and download for most cases.

apparently I have mySQL installed/enabled on my website but there is no file relating to a database - is there a program which could create a database for SQL? preferably freeware 😃
