Template Engines, pointers, etc?

Simple question, especially to those who have used both.

Smarty or Flexy?

Flexy, if I am using PEAR for other things such as DB, should I use Flexy, or would Smarty still make more sense?

I search on goodle, and get 700 - 800 pages on Flexy information, and with the same text, search for Smarty and obtain 44,000+ results.

It seems to me that Smarty is used more, and has a mostly complete and bug free product for such a massive userbase. Flexy appears to be newer, and comes with a lot less tutorial information.

So can anyone tell my why I sould use Flexy or Smarty over the other, what is their selling points?

I use phplibs template because a) while it wasn't the first I tried it was the first I got working the way I needed; and b) I'm too lazy to try those which have come along since then (ie smarty)

I used to be very pro templates for separating the presentation layer from the logical layer ... but I'm finding that by using careful modularisation and well thought out design I'm wanting to use templates less and less.

Anybody else found that their use changed over time?

I use Template IT form PEAR. It's prety fast(faster than Smarty) and I'm happy with it. It hasn't all the functionalities from Smarty but you can't have them all

Good enough I guess.

I am having no lucky getting Flexy to operate according to the manual suggests.

So I am on to check out Template IT and Smarty.
