web designer too?

Hmm tough question maybe, I started learning php 6 months ago trying to edit Postnuke and I successfully did that and made my own CMS system in the process, but now I am faced with a tough question, I am taking on some serious work for both my own and clients websites and until now, Ive outsourced designing, I was wondering what opinions were on learning web designing too... any php programmers out there who also are experienced web designers, opinions? tutorials? how you started to learn? thanks!

I cant do graphics if my life depended on it.. well i can but not very good..

Did HTML 1yr before i did PHP...

I usually just have the clients give me three to five sites they like then I steal elements from each of the those and build their design like that.

not really I'm just good at my job. Part of my job is information requisition.

The downfall of a lot of programmers is that they think their job is programing when when only makes up about 15 - 20% of the actual job.

i guess that all depends on your job title and what is expected of you..

probably but I have yet (in 10 years of professional programming) to have a job that is more then about 20% coding but at different jobs different things made up that other 80%

In 3 years of PHP, i have to say, about 80% of my job is programming. The design - especially in website management areas, tends to take a second seat to the functionality of the scripts involved. For the front end- what the world sees, I sub out the design, just because I have better things to do than pick out the right shade of blue.
