removing the end &quot;/&quot; in a url

removing the end "/" in a url

I want to find a way to remove the last slash in a url, while keeping the others (if any) in!

so e.g.
www.bbc.co.uk/
would be converted to
www.bbc.co.uk

i've had a look in the manual, and found stristr(), but i'm a bit confused about it! is that the correct function to use?

if anyone should know the answer I'd be most grateful!

rtrim($urlstring,"/") should do it, if you use PHP 4.1 or above.
