[Resolved] Sessions don't work

Hi!

Sessions don't work on my local server (PHP version 4.0.5) but do work when I upload my scripts to a third party server.

It must be some setting in my php.ini but I don't know which.

Can anyone help out?

Please let me know if you need more info or need to see my php.ini file.

I think i have the same problem

I use windows 2003 server and PHP 4.3.3

I have some scrips that have to write some some data in a file.dat this works great on my Windows XP computer but when i upload the same script on my server its doesn't work anymore.

Other scrips that dont write anything works fine. and i do have write read permisions set in the homedirectory settings

What could this be????

(Small question... what does directory browsing mean?)

I've done some research and I've found out that a session cookie is created and placed in my session save dir.

The cookie that's created contains nothing! filesize is 0 kb.

do you have the session save directory set in your php.ini, and make sure that that folder really exists

Yes, it's set to C:\WINNT\Temp

That works, I see that the session cookie is created.
I can also read from that session as long as I'm on the same page. After I load another page the session is empty..

hmmm, tis strange, next step i would do it open a

<? phpinfo(); ?>

page on your local server and on the hosted server and compare the two, note any difference and then check into the differences

I did but I can't see any difference that would cause such an error.

The hosted server also uses another version...

i didn't see anything really that jumped out at me

what i do know is that 4.0.5 (your local server) was really buggy, and IIRC, a lot of the bugginess was with sessions

are there any hiccups at all on the hosted server with the sessions, maybe post the code if there are some questions about it, and maybe upgrade your PHP local version

I haven't had any problems with the hosted server, nor other problems besides the sessions with my own PHP version.

I'll try installing another version of php and see what it does.

While searching the forum for an answer to this I noticed some other posts about this very same problem and none of them got solved 🙁

I'm pretty sure the problem is not in my code. To be sure I used the example code for sessions from the php-manual and tested it on both servers. Mine didn't work, hosted server did.

Ok, I installed PHP 4.2.2 and that solved the problem!
