I'm trying to find a good web hosting company and am wondering if anyone can help me out. I have found a few companies that I'm thinking about going with, but want some of your opinions as to which one you would go with.

www.whatnott.com
www.media3.net
www.hostway.com

They all have different plans, some with more space and traffic and some with less. Just having trouble deciding which is the best deal.

Thanks for you input.

Try godaddy.com or if your interested get a dedicated server at ev1servers.com

We are a private label reseller for hostway, and they aren't the cheapest, but they are very secure and reliable, imho. I've gone with cheaper hosts in the past and have been disappointed- you usually get what you pay for, especially in the "support" department- god forbid something is going on with your site and you actually want to talk to a human about it. With Hostway I've not had any problems reaching someone on the few occasions it was necessary.

Their options for PHP/MySQL leave something to be desired, but I'm hoping that some day they'll come around 🙂 (for instance you can only have one database per client, and no "load data infile" allowed.. sucks for the developer, but like anything there are "work arounds" 🙂 )

I've worked with several different hosts over the years. Here's some of them.

if you're looking for virtual hosting there's
        http://www.aitcom.net
        http://www.xeran.com
        http://www.datacenturion.com

I personally have my own dedicated linux server from serverbeach, http://www.serverbeach.com . They don't offer tech support, hence the cheap price on dedicated servers $99/mo. If you can manage your own linux server (including keeping up with patches) then they are an excellent choice.

DONT ever go to servercove.com or liquidpages.com. They are the same company their service was horrible. I cancelled with them and they are STILL charging me. CC company's disputing it now. what a nightmare they were.

Hey, why don't you try hosting with eHostPros.com

Very affordable hosting plans, can host multiple domains with single account.

Finding a host can take days.
If your site is for business/clients, do some research on the webhost. Good place to start is webhosttalking.

To quote one of my favorite movies

Assumptions are the mother of all f*$#ups!

              😃

But yep, I know what you're saying

Quote from Silence of the Lambs (book not film):

"When you assume, you make an Ass out of you and me"

Spose thats true, but in this case I think it was a rather harmless assumption to make

I think www.hardhathosting.com has got to be the best host I have ever encountered. They offer your own SSH, PgSQL, MySQL PHP, Perl and loads of other stuff. You have a full control panel and you have access to your own database programs and such through the ssh. Makes it so much easier when you can load up a client and mess with psql or mysql from the command line. Also the support is top notch, you can live chat with someone by clicking one link! They will even customize your hosting and install packages for you.
