[Resolved] [Resolved] Article/News Preview

Alright, so I'm looking for a little help on this one.

I have a website blah blah blah written in PHP end everything, and I'm looking to do a php-nuke sort of thing where on the main page, where you have the articles in the middle, with the topic, author and w/e.. but what I want to do is have it so that the content area only shows the first... 200 words or so.

so it would be like

PHP HELP___________________________pjleonhardt

 blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah...

(and the topic would have alink to the whole article, but I already know how to do that, i just need to figure out how to cut it off after so many words)

You'll need strlen and substr

thanks, but dont they both go on characters, not words?

yes, and I think to deal with words, you're going to need to write a custom function

ah, sorry to bother you, but I've found one that will work.. I'm still going to have to clean it up so it actually parses HTML and such though..

simply using

<?
$content = $news['content'];
$wordsincontent = str_word_count($content, 1);
$word = 0;
for($word=0; $word<100; $word++)
	echo $wordsincontent["$word"] . " ";
?>

works...

I've never used that function. May have to look through the manual some more. Ain't PHP a beautiful thing 🙂
