Float Column Type

I have defined a column as FLOAT(7,2)

I try to sore 1499.95 into this field and it stores as 1499.00. The .95 is not represented.

I can store any 3 digit number like 399.95 and the .95 is stored.

What is going on?

Maybe fill out a 'bug' report on the MySQL website?

That's all I can think of...except for changing it to FLOAT(8,2) for kicks and see what happens.

I checkout out the MySQL website. Dunno if this matters or not, but are you set up for 'precision' or 'unsigned' ???

FLOAT(precision) [UNSIGNED] [ZEROFILL]
A floating-point number. precision can be <=24 for a single-precision floating-point number and between 25 and 53 for a double-precision floating-point number. These types are like the FLOAT and DOUBLE types described immediately below. FLOAT(X) has the same range as the corresponding FLOAT and DOUBLE types, but the display size and number of decimals are undefined. In MySQL Version 3.23, this is a true floating-point value. In earlier MySQL versions, FLOAT(precision) always has 2 decimals. Note that using FLOAT may give you some unexpected problems as all calculations in MySQL are done with double precision. See section A.5.6 Solving Problems with No Matching Rows. This syntax is provided for ODBC compatibility.

FLOAT[(M,D)] [UNSIGNED] [ZEROFILL]
A small (single-precision) floating-point number. Allowable values are -3.402823466E+38 to -1.175494351E-38, 0, and 1.175494351E-38 to 3.402823466E+38. If UNSIGNED is specified, negative values are disallowed. The M is the display width and D is the number of decimals. FLOAT without arguments or FLOAT(X) where X <= 24 stands for a single-precision floating-point number.

What version are you running?

create table test (num float (7,2));
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec)

mysql> insert into test values (1499.95);
Query OK, 1 row affected (0.00 sec)

mysql> select * from test;
+---------+
| num |
+---------+
| 1499.95 |
+---------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

It works for me version number: 3.23.41

It's been a while...I've been away.

This is the situation, I can enter the 1499.95 value through phpMyadmin and it is ok.

When I enter the value 1499.95 through an HTML form variable it defaults to 1499.00.

What could be hapening with the form?

What does gettype($varname) tell you the type is? I'm betting it's somehow getting converted to an int.
