I am a new comer of PHP. I would like to write a search engine that users can use to search the contents within a web site. Can I develop it without using MySQL?

Yes you can - you just have to read from files, write a lot of code - and ualla :p

It will not be effective - and you have to do a LOT of coding.
Easier to use a DB.

I guess if you search on this site - or elsevery on the net. you will probably find that someone else has done it already.
