how would i insert and query an image in MySQL?

Im not really sure the best method to go about doing this. I want to store either an image in my database or the path to an image. Which ever is more bandwith friendly is the one i wanna go with.

You're storing and retrieving a file. It's all the same no matter what type of file it is.

The tutorial is on the more generic store/retrieve a file for download, but with a little adaption it works great for images too.

use a text field and store the name of the image...then simple query the db to get the text field value and use that to show the image

while ($rows=mysql_fetch_array($result)){

$img=$rows['image'];

echo "<img src=\"$img\"height=\"100" width=\"100\">";

}

no not really - it's a bit more complex then that.

sorry should have been a little more specific....don't store the image in the db (db don't work like that any way) store the image in a folder and store the name as a text element in the db table

what do you mean db don't work like that anyway?

I put files into the database all the time. You just need a script that will store the info about the file (name, type, etc.) and one that will pull it out and set the headers appropriately. It's really easy but it's a bear to explain.

i understand that it can be done...but internally inside the db, what happens is the file is stored in a virtual folder and the column receives a pointer to the file...

but the purpose of a relational database is to remove me one more step from the file architecture. Technically speaking they are all files that's the only place to store stuff on a computer.
