I loved the first Homeworld and I'd love to try the second...I've yet to get my hands on a demo though....sigh.

Hell, I might just be persuaded to put XP back on for it.

You can show me all the links you want to to open-source-game sites, but it won't convince me. Linux is not a gaming platform. It's great for the office, but not exactly great for the desktop...I'm not dissing Linux...I'm telling the facts. If you're not a gamer, Linux is great. If you have games, you'll sadly have to kiss Linux goodbye. These games might actually be good, you never know, but I still don't think that Linux games are in the same league as Windows games.

Couldn't agree more. Linux is (and most likely always will be) a "geek's" OS. It is for the programmers, the tweakers, the sysadmins and those of us who love our XTerms a little too much. I won't go into depth about what I think sucks about Linux...'cause I'll never shut up 🙂 Needless to say there needs to be a revolution to bring open source to the home user.

Well, I ain't disagreeing. ON almost all my systems I keep a dual boot of Windows and Linux. Though I spend most of my time in Linux, if I do want to play games, I boot up Windows. But I blame that more on the game manufaturers than the OS. The manufacturers make games for play on Windows, not Linux. I also need Windows for my work's VPN and Exchange Mail(don't wanna pay for Evolution's connector), but that's all off topic 🙂

i personally have only one computer, running a dual boot of Windows XP Professional and Slackware 9.0..... problem is im a toatl newb and slackware doesn't like my in-built NIC so i can't go online from there 🙁 o well i'll find a way one of these days....till then, im stuck in windows.

Well Moonglobe, I always tell nix newbies to get their start on Red Hat. Might wanna try that.....it has good support for most hardware too....

well im not a total newb......... hell i got apache php mysql and pgsql all working from source before i upgraded to my new mobo...........and im sure im doing something wrong.

That's probably because the Windows multimedia system totally defeats most things Linux has. I can't think of anything open source that comes close to DirectX 9. Except that Transgaming stuff...that's impressive. I suppose the other reason is simply that the manufacturers know that not enough people use Linux to warrant developing for it.

Dammit, if only my C/C++ skills were better...I can think of so many things I would tweak.

I heard Homeworld was a great game. If I got a better comp, I would get Homeworld2...in the meanwhile I'll satisfy myself with Homeworld.
