does anyone know how the connection methods communicate with remote databases?
are the username and password passed in plain text or are they encrypted?
my specific case is with a M$ SQL Server, but i cant seem to be able to answer that question in reference to connecting to any database, and i am having trouble even figuring out where to look.
I dont care much about securing the data, but the login to the remote db is a much more serious issue. I just dont want all the overhead of SSL if the DB connection authentication procedure is already secure.
