strange symbol after database restore

hi,

my superb hosting company managed to corrupt a mysql table, somehow. So, did a backup from a database dump.

Since this, instead of getting £125 i see printed £125 ?

In easyphpadmin its shown correct, but when i print the field out

echo($row["price"]);

i get the funny  too. Note that the field is just ascii, not a number.

whats my best move to trash this weird symbol as painlessly as possible?

UPDATE mytable SET mycolumn=REPLACE (mycolumn, 'Â', '');

From MySQL ref:

REPLACE(str,from_str,to_str)
Returns the string str with all occurrences of the string from_str replaced by the string to_str:
mysql> SELECT REPLACE('www.mysql.com', 'w', 'Ww');
-> 'WwWwWw.mysql.com'

This function is multi-byte safe.
