Cookies won't work on local machine

I'm working on a (now quite large) PHP script to provide extensive site content management. Up till now I've avoided using cookies, but I need to use them in the admin area. I'm developng the app offline on my own PC, then uploading it as each module works. Cookies work fine on the uploaded version, but on my local PC, they don't work, which makes testing a pain.

My local PC has Win98SE, IE6 (all cookies enabled), Apache 2.0.40, PHP 4.2.3 and MySQL. What do I have to do to get cookies working locally? Or can I even do this?

Even if you can't answer, if you can point me to where I MIGHT get an answer would be great.

Found the answer quite quickly. I'll leave it up for anybody else, as I had a hard time finding it.

Using localhost as the address is the problem (for Windows/IE), although it should work, it doesn't.

Basically, edit the hosts file (on my machine this is in the WIN98 dir) and add a fake web address to map to your local IP (127.0.0.1), then use this address to access your local pages. IE thinks you are on the net and stores the cookies.
