New to MySQL and nee dhelp

Greets,

I am new to PHP and MySQL. My installation of PHP has gone through smoothly but I can't figure out how to set up MySQL or the Database required.

After 4 hours of searching last night and the help of a friend who is awesome in PHP but not too knowledge in MySQL I have come to you for help. I have tried the MySQL website and several other sites but most tutorials are made for *NIX. I am currently running Windows XP Pro and the MySQL 4 installer won't work since it is a 16 bit application.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. I just need help setting up the basic Data Base so I can get it to work. Thank you again.

Ditch the installer. Get the zip, extract it to C:\mysql

Open up a command promt, and here's the steps
1) Install it as a service: C:\mysql\bin\mysqld --install
2) Start it with: net start mysql

Done
