This is kind of OT, but does anyone know anything about automated phone systems? You know such as the automated responses you get when you dial tech support and whatnot. If someone could point me to some info about this that would be great. Thanks.

I dont know anything really about them.. but i know basically you have a voice recorded into a computer. depending on what set up you may have the phone user press numbers or say something..

i know it's a pretty old topic but it came up when searching the forums.

you need to do a search for IVR (interactive voice response) this is most often tied in with NGT (non geographic terminating numbers) like 0800 freephone, 0844 low-call, or 0845 local in the UK.

other hot search terms for this would be PRS, Telco, Telecoms, Non Geo, Routing, LCR (least cost routing) as you'll find that those who can supply what you want will most likely have a full switch somewhere or at least a partition. If you're not already sorted a good Google should get you something setup for free as there's stacks of follow me and caller redirect options out there on callshare.

you can also plug your phone hardware to your PC to handle this but it's a different story.....

we use IVR and PRS in the UK and through Europe as a payment option which plugs in seamlessly with our systems here. we paid for a bespoke system and it was some of the best money we ever spent!
