I can't get this search engine friendly coding. I am on a deadline which passed a couple of weeks ago.

Is there somebody out there who would be willing to help me with this? I would pay you for your help.

No need to pay, you just need to post more information. Is it a problem where the search engine won't index your files because they end in .php, or what?

I just don't understand what i am suppose tp dp with the code. i would rather let somebody do it for me and explain why they did it so that i can do this in the future. and i don't want anybody to do this for free. would you be willing to help?

i would like to get the ?articlesId=835 out of my file names. and i am trying to do this for week with many different codes. but i guess i just don't understand this top[ic.

Sxooter is right on this one...take a little time to put down EXACTLY what you are trying to do. From what you have said thus far, you are simply trying to parse a set of logs? I think? MAybe? Not sure though...anyway, if you can post specifics, we can help...

Ok I will try to explain how my website is built and how i have my links set up.

first of all we are a content based website witch around 6000 articles.

articles will be displaied either on a premium page (you need to have subscribed to it) or on a reular page.

there are three different places where i would like to have articles appear.

http://www.paris-marketplace.com/pages/articles.php
http://www.paris-marketplace.com/ttest/premiumarticles.php
http://www.paris-marketplace.com/premium/premiumarticles.php

so far all the articles appear in the correct place. but when i link to an article which is generated by the database the URL looks like this:

http://www.paris-marketplace.com/pages/articles.php?articleId=123
http://www.paris-marketplace.com/premium/premiumarticles.php?articleId=123

so what i am trying to do is to get rid off the ?articleID=123 and have it written as
http://www.paris-marketplace.com/pages/articles.php/123
http://www.paris-marketplace.com/premium/premiumarticles.php/123

I found a lot of resources but i don't know how I have to put this into my scripts.

i think that i have to change the code in this part of my funtions but i don't know how and if and ????

i only wrote down the lines I think i need to change. but once i have changed this I am not sure how the browser will know what i told them to do. i think i dont' have the rewrite module. so i guess i need to do something with the htaccess file. but again. this is my vary first php page and i guess it is the last one i will ever do ;-(

So you need to change everything after the "php code" tag that I inserted to reflect the change in your file structure:

example:

<a href="http://www.paris-marketplace.com/premium/premiumarticles.php?articleId=<?php echo $aRow["pk_aId"]; ?>">Read Full Article</a>

should be :

<a href="http://www.paris-marketplace.com/premium/premiumarticles.php/<?php echo $aRow["pk_aId"]; ?>">Read Full Article</a>

which should come out as:
<a href="http://www.paris-marketplace.com/premium/premiumarticles.php/123">Read Full Article</a>

However, I'm not quite sure WHY you're doing this, since it's much harder to get "/123" off of a header than ?article=123 because php has built in functions to get that information.

I would like to have this changed as we need to be picked up by the search engines and it seems as if this is the reason why we are not picked up. i read all over that i need to get the ? out of the urls.

Look at apache's mod_rewrite. It was designed to do exactly what you want.

this is quite simple.
Check to see if mod_rewrite is installed on your server, if not ask your host to do so.

then, create an .htaccess file with:

RewriteEngine on 
RewriteRule ^pages/articles/([0-9]+)/?$ /pages/articles.php?articleId=$1 [L] 
RewriteRule ^premium/([0-9]+)/?$ /premium/premiumarticles.php?articleId=$1 [L]

Upload the .htaccess file to your web root.
Now you can change your urls, and you can access articles like:

/premium/123
/pages/articles/123

I've been meaning to try that out, so I went ahead... and tripped 🙁

I tried all kinds of ways of doing the .htaccess file, only to realize that my apache config was the problem. I had mod_rewrite enabled, but at the bottom of the httpd.conf file was

<Directory "/">
Options FollowSymLinks

    AllowOverride None

</Directory>

Well, heheh, that no workie... Have to change AllowOverride to All.
