[Resolved] Var assignment ...if...display problem

I dunno what's wrong here...have tried = and == and "" and " " but maybe it is an var assignment problem?

1. $insurefee comes from a list($blah,$blah,$insurefee,$blah,$blah) = explode("^", $_SESSION['item'] code line.

2. If there is an amount like 0.50 contained in let's say the position field of (^0.50) in the inital 'item', then 'echo $insurefee;' displays fine. No problemo.

3. If there is NOT an amount (i.e., ^), then nothing displays...but I then need 0.00 to show on the page. I've tried numerous variations of:

   echo $insurefee;
   echo "<br><br";
   $insurance = $insurefee;
   echo "$insurance"; 
   if ($insurance == " ") {
      $insurance == "0.00";
   }
   

   I've even tried '$insurance ==$insurefee;' and everything I can think of. What am I missing here?

if(!$insurefee) {
   $insurefee == "0.00";
}

Thanks for the suggestion, but that doesn't work either.

$insurefee gets exploded in the list, so it does exist...but the problem is if it is "" or " " ... how to deal with the situation.

BTW, I have some other vars which I need to change names on at certain processing stages.

Is: $insurance = $insurefee (or) $insurance == $insurefee not permitted?

Well, umpteen trial & error attempts later, this works:

if(empty($insurefee)) { 
   $insurefee = "0.00";
}

Thanks...your suggestion pointed me in a direction that led to the solution.

yeah = is the assignment operator:

$var = "somevalue";

while == is a comparison opertor:

if ($var == "somvalue" print "1";

(if $var is EQUAL to "somevalue" this will print a 1 for true.
