H E L P !!

I have an Visual Basic application which connects to my site at a MySQL database. Is there anyway I can secure the MySQL database but still enable my users using the software to update the database.

Any help would be great.

everyone knows it's www.egypt.mysql.com ..... but that's down for maintenance right now.... you'll have to give it a while. All your questions will be answered there. 🙂

so if the whole site is PHP, where'd the VB app come from?

thats like telling a guest at your house, "I'm sorry, all I have to eat here is apples, would you like an orange?"

the obvious solution... make the site rely on php, not VB, then script in whatever "security" measures you need for that particular pages funcionality...

The web site collates and presents data. This data is collected by engineers out in the field and upon return they connect and upload the data where the web site can be used to analyse the data from many engineers.

My main problem is that I cannot lock down the security on the MySQL database to one or a number of static IP addresses because an each engineer can theoretically connect and upload from anywhere.

Are there any products which I can use to make the connection between the workstation and this VB app and the MySQL database?

I could convert the site to a https and change the standard port which MySQL uses to something else. But it still would mean that the database would be "OPEN" and all that would be required would a username/password.

What is Egypt at MySQL (www.egypt.mysql.com)? No site?

Any advice?
