need help

If I was to build a custom-made website, with the following specifications, what should I charge for it?

It has the following:
Subject list (for school)
Brochure section
Forums (custom built)
member pages (so that former pupils can have a page to tell everyone what they're doing now)

I am looking for a price, but say what you think.

Questions I'd need to ask
are you making it once for one school or selling to many - in the second case you'll be able to charge what the market will bear, in the first you'll charge for your time. You will have to make sure that the potential number of customers cost exceeds the cost of development.
* why do you need a custom forum? Wouldn't it be better to buy a licenced (ie no ads) copy of an existing forum which speeds up your "time to market". why reinvent the wheel?

Right, this is the third time that I've tried to reply, but anyway...

I have my reasons for wanting to create a custom forum, the foremost is complete control over how it looks (which is very important to me) and also that I love a challenge.

I'm making it for a school that I used to go to, but I may try to sell it at some point in the future.

running phpbb is like activating a time bomb,.. it has more holes than you can count .. guess that's why its free 😃

that has nothing to do with it. If you are charging for this work then it needs to be the right solution for the customer, not for you.

If you won't gain enough satisfaction from doing it then stand aside and give someone else the work.

As for control over look & feel, I can see that that might be important but I'm not convinced that the school will be so picky.

If you're not charging for this installation then go ahead, reinvent the wheel but you may find that it's a BIG job.

You're probably right, but I only have the register part of the Forum to do, and a couple of hours testing after that.

If I ask for the school to be that picky, then they will be 😉
