I've heard that HTTP downloads can be quite harsh on some servers, especially when many people are downloading the same file. I've searched for facts about this but I haven't found anything so I thought I should make a thread here.
Obviously FTP is the best way to transfer files but if that's not possible how bad is HTTP for a heavy loaded file archive? The server I'm using is running FreeBSD and Apache. Is there anything that can be done about problems with HTTP downloads? Can you resolve any problems by i.e. configuring it any special way etc?
