No idea what I am doing!!!

I am working on a website and have had some code written for me (as I am a wysiwyg worshipper) which should in theory allow visitors to the website to download pdf files from the website.

The php code I have been given, should force the link to provide the user with an option to either open or save rather than simply opening the pdf in the browser.

However, what actaully happens is that although the pop windows giving the option to save the pdf is displayed, when you select the save option it appears as though the download is working and then reports that the file has been successfully downloaded - BUT it only actually downloads a 1kb file although all of the downloads are in excess of 600kb???

I know absoultely nothing about HTML or PHP and as such don't know what to do to get the download to work correctly - any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Take a look at http://www.infinitypages.com/research/download.htm and see if that works better for you.

I have implemented the php that you directed me to - but it only works if the file that I want to download is in the same directory as the web page linking to it!! (by that I mean I cannot get it to work any other way).

How do I adjust it so that it looks to the correct file path for the download file?

i believe just putting the '/path_to/file.pdf' in the array of files would work for that..

I have tried this but I just keep getting the 'Path not found' message when you click on the download link!!!

The files are located in a sub-directory of that which contains the webpage linking to them. The folder is named 'manuals'.

No matter how I adjust the code in the php file - I just cannot get it to work?

I have attached a copy of the php I am now using and refer to array position 0. I have tried this both with a '\' preceeding the manuals directory and without - either way I have the same outcome.

It should be a / rather than a :

$files = array("manuals/LandLateManual.pdf","LandMarkManualv3-03.pdf","LandMarkManualv3-04.pdf","LandMarkManualv3-04SC.pdf");

Also, if you put a / before manuals, it is an absolute path, rather than a relative one...

Thanks for that, I had figured out that I had the slash the wrong way round......my problem was that I had incorrectly named the files in the php file.

There are some that should dabble in programming and others that shouldn't - guess which category I fit into :rolleyes:
