annual leave system

i am writing an annual leave system using php.

the case is like this:
- staff can log in to see their remaining annual leave
- every staff is given 18 days per year
- last year annual leave can be brought forward to this year
- for instance, last year, i got 5 days annual leave remained, so, this year, i will have 18+5 days
- the annual leave can be accumulated

i can do the login part, but i don't know how to manage the yearly leave. how can i let the system add 18 days on 1st January every year?

can anyone show me some hints?

If this helps...

You could have a page that adds 18 days to every user, and updates the year to the current one in the database (or whatever you use) It could check that the year was not right before it added the days to the user accounts, so that if the file was run more than once, it doesn't add more than 18 days per year.

Then you would need to arrange for someone to run the page every year on january 1 (or as soon as possible)
