Uploaded Word, Excel files become gibberish

Hello all,

I have some code to upload files through a form. Well, if I download the file through the web or with ftp, it is all gibberish that Word can't read. So, getting the file there works fine, but it seems that it is stripping some formatting or something else. Here is the code that I use to upload:

Other files like images seem to work fine. Any ideas would help. Thanks!

are you on a windows server? WORD and EXCEL run on windows only

hmm... I thought those files are viewed clientside, i.e. a Unix server could still be used to host them?

I have a feeling it has to do with end of line characters, but if it works for images, it should work for Excel/Word files, too, right?

Yes, they are only being stored on the server. I am not even trying to have them viewable through the web. Once the files are uploaded, I have tried to download them using a link to the file and then going through FTP to bring them down. both ways they end up being gibberish. It is my guess since I get them as gibberish even when i bring them back down through FTP, that it is the uploading process that is somehow corrupting them.
