Create new Column in Table

OK, I'm sure its been asked a million times before, and the answer has been supplied more, but I can find my topic in a search, nor the manual. I am a newbie, and haven't figured all the diff. terminology php has.

I need a mysql_query to create a new column for a table that already exists. How can I do that?
