Connection

Heres my problem

I am on a comp running Windows XP Pro.

How do I connect to my MySQL server ...with a command promp? is there a good program out there i can use?.. the server owners have not installed phpMyAdmin or anything like it.

ok how do i use telnet?? im fairly new to php and sql

you can download mysql control center, or mysql front, or any other utility and then just specify your server, user, pass, etc.

Also, most every host will allow you to install phpmyadmin yourself. Just make sure you .htaccess protect it, or the like

Telnet has nothing to do with PHP or Mysql. It's just a command line remote connection to another box. I'd suggest getting Putty. It makes things a lot easier. Otherwise, all you need to do, is in Windows, go to Start->Run. At the prompt, type cmd and press enter. This will bring up a DOS window. At the DOS prompt, type telnet server.to.telnet.to, press enter. It will prompt you for username and password. After you've done that, you should be connected to the box. From there, you can type mysql -p, and you will be asked for your password for mysql. After you do that, you're logged in....
