chmod

I am trying to chmod the current directory I'm running...
Is that now allowed?

I am getting this error:
<b>Warning</b>: chmod(): Operation not permitted in <b>/home/ukndoit/public_html/php/travel.php(581) : eval()'d code</b> on line <b>1</b><br />

From this code:
$my_c_file = "/home/ukndoit/www/php";
$my_c_per = "01777";
eval("chmod(\"". $my_c_file ."\", ". $my_c_per .");");

Is it because the script is running in that directory that I get that message?

Ok, now I put it in a different location, ABOVE the php directory, so that I'm not running anything in the php directory that I'm trying to chmod.

Still, I get that same message.

So, is there a reason I cannot chmod a directory?

Have you tried it without eval()? You also have one too many numbers methinks...

if(chmod ("/home/ukndoit/public_html/test.php", 0755)) {
    echo "Success";
}
else {
    echo "Failed";
}

It could also be the quotes around the mode(which requires int type).

Try using

eval("chmod(\"". $_my_c_file ."\", octdec(". $_my_c_per .") );");

I am actually trying to chmod a Directory.
